Diego Muro
Associate Senior Researcher
Diego Muro is Senior Research Associate at the CIDOB (Barcelona Centre for International Affairs) and Lecturer in International Relations at the Handa Centre for the Study of Political Violence and Terrorism (CSTPV) at the University of St Andrews. Prior to St Andrews, he was Associate Professor in European Studies at King's College London, Assistant Professor at the Institut Barcelona d'Estudis Internacionals (IBEI-UPF), Max Weber Postdoctoral Fellow at the European University Institute (EUI) and Senior Fellow at St Antony’s College, University of Oxford. He holds a PhD in Political Science from the London School of Economics (2004), a Masters degree in EU studies from the University of Sussex (1999) and a BA in Politics from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (1998).
His main research interests are comparative politics, nationalism and ethnic conflict, security studies and terrorism and counter-terrorism. He has authored of the following books: Ethnicity and Violence (2008), The Politics and Memory of Democratic Transition (2011), ETA’s Terrorist Campaign (2017), When Does Terrorism Work? (2018), Strategies of Secession and Counter-Secession (2020), Oxford Handbook of Spanish Politics (2020) and Contemporary Terrorism Studies (2022).
His work has also been published in the following scholarly journals: Politics, Nations and Nationalism, Nationalism and Ethnic Politics, Ethnic and Racial Studies, South European Society and Politics, Studies in Conflict and Terrorism and West European Politics.
