Jordi Vaquer i Fanés

He is a political analyst specializing in international affairs, the author of a regular column in El País (Spain’s leading newspaper), a commentator for other media and a frequent participant and speaker at pan-European and international debates and seminars on world politics and on EU affairs. Between 2008 and 2011 Jordi Vaquer was the coordinator of EU4Seas, a European Commission - funded research program bringing together partner institutions from 8 European countries to study the effects of EU policies on cooperation around the Mediterranean, Baltic, Caspian and Black Seas. Between 2009 and 2012 he was the director of Revista CIDOB d'Afers Internacionals, one of the top Spanish-language academic journals devoted to International Relations. Additionally, he teaches at IBEI, the Barcelona Institute for International Studies. Dr. Vaquer graduated from the Autonomous University of Barcelona, Spain, received a master’s degree from the College of Europe in Bruges, Belgium, and he completed a Ph.D. in International Relations at the London School of Economics, UK. Before joining CIDOB, he worked five years for the international affairs department at the Government of Catalonia and had some professional experience as an occasional teacher at the London School of Economics, an elections observer in 7 countries and a consultant for EC-funded projects.
