Abstract: Gender quotas have substantially changed the distribution of women in Latin American parliaments, as well as party recruitment guidelines. However, little analysis has been made of the impact of this phenomenon within the parties. This research analyses data from the Latin American parliamentary elite with the aim of giving particular attention to the assessment of elected women in relation to the gender balance dynamics within their political parties. It is shown that a glass ceiling prevents them from occupying major decision-making roles within the party, reducing the opportunities for rising within the organisation.
