Fourth edition of CIDOB and Banco Sabadell Foundation “Programa Talent Global”: a commitment to young research talent
The Banco Sabadell Foundation and CIDOB (Barcelona Center for International Affairs) launch the fourth edition of the Programa Talent Global with the aim of promoting quality research by young researchers, through a paid research stay and two awards for applied research.investigación aplicada.
“Global Talent Award”: rules and requirements
CIDOB (Barcelona Centre for International Affairs, with the support of the Banco Sabadell Foundation, calls for entries for the “Global Challenges Talent Award” on its fourth edition.
Aim
The “Global Talent Award” recognises works with an original analytical approach that apply research to today’s international relations challenges.
Themes
The award seeks research on global issues, with a focus on:
- New global geopolitical dynamics
- The state of Democracy and the International Liberal Order
- Technological revolutions and their impact on international relations and governance
- Challenges in sustainable development, climate change and global inequality
- Geoeconomics and trade relations
- The challenges of European Integration
- The European Union as an international actor
Requirements
- Candidates must be younger than 45 years old on December 31st, 2024
- The research may be academic work from the Master level onwards, including pre and postdoctoral research, final master’s projects or other research written in the past year that has not previously won a prize or been published
- The works should be of between 10,000 and 15,000 words
- The works must be individual
- The works must include applied research and innovative proposals
- The research may be submitted in Catalan, Spanish or English
- Only one work per author will be considered in the “Programa Talent Global” call
Submissions
The call will open on June 1st 2024
The submission deadline is September 30th 2024.
The works must include a title and reference to one of the themes identified in this call.
Documentation to submit:
- One bound copy and one digital copy of the work. All copies must be anonymous
- A summary of the work (of approximately 300 words) including an explanation of its appropriateness and impact
The documentation, including the title of the work, the thematic area of the research and the candidate's personal details and CV, should be submitted in a sealed envelope to CIDOB's headquarters (C/Elisabets, 12, 08001 Barcelona) by post or in person between the hours of 8am and 8pm. A digital copy shall also be sent to seleccio@cidob.org with the title ‘Global Talent Awards’.
Format and style
The works should be submitted in Microsoft Word documents, Times New Roman 12 or Arial 11 font with 1.5 line spacing. If the material contains graphics and figures, they should be in .jpg or .xls format and numbered consecutively within each chapter. A complete list of references should be included at the end of the text and cited in the body of the text in the format (surname, year: page).
Selection and notification process
The award will be judged by a jury formed of a member of the CIDOB management, a member proposed by the Banco Sabadell Foundation, and three experts on the themes of the call.
The award may be declared void if the works submitted do not reach the required standards.
The results of the award will be announced by the second half of October 2024.
Endowment of the award
The “Global Talent Award” is endowed with a €2,500 first prize and a €1,500 second prize. Once the winner has been announced and the author has signed the corresponding contract in accordance with the applicable law, the prize money will be sent by bank transfer. The applicable taxes will be deducted. The winning work may be published as part of CIDOB’s editorial output. Before publication, changes and modifications may be suggested to the author.
Public presentation
The public presentation of the winning work will form part of the “Banco Sabadell Foundation Dialogues”, which will take place during on November 2024 at CIDOB’s headquarters (C/Elisabets, 12, 08001 Barcelona).
The “Banco Sabadell Foundation Dialogues” will consist of a conference featuring two sessions of public dissemination of the works awarded the “Global Talent Award”. Each session will take the form of a dialogue between the prize-winner and a specialist speaker on the winning topic.
Intellectual property
By accepting the prize the author assigns the rights to use the study exclusively to CIDOB. This assignment includes the rights of reproduction, distribution, public communication and translation, for use in any format, medium or language.
CIDOB will be entitled to digitally store and reproduce the study and make it available to the public through the internet, as well as signing agreements with third parties to enable its optimal use in various formats.
Accepting the award is incompatible with any financial assistance provided by another institution to carry out the same study. No rights shall be transferred for the works of unsuccessful applicants.
Protection of personal data
Applicants’ data will be processed in order to manage the selection process. The responsible party for the data processing is CIDOB (Barcelona Centre for International Affairs). The legal basis for the data processing is the consent given when submitting the application.
The data will not be transferred to third parties, other than to meet CIDOB's legal or contractual obligations. The data and CVs of unsuccessful candidates will be destroyed within a maximum period of six months after the resolution of the call. “Junior Visiting Fellowship”: rules and requirements
CIDOB (Barcelona Centre for International Affairs), with the support of the Banco Sabadell Foundation, calls for applications for the fourth “Junior Visiting Fellowship”.
Aim
The “Junior Visiting Fellowship” seeks a young researcher of up to 30 years old who has demonstrated their research capacities to join CIDOB’s research team for a six-month paid research stay.

- Gender and international relations.
Requirements
- Candidates must be 30 years old or younger on December 31st, 2024.
- They must possess research skills and the ability to contribute to a think tank’s typical publication output.
- Have a high level of English.
- Have permission to work in the EU.
- Hold a degree related to the themes of this call. Possession of a master's degree will be viewed favourably.
Call
The call will open on April 2nd, 2024.
The application deadline is June 30th, 2024.
The application should be accompanied by a CV, a motivation letter and a research proposal (one page maximum, including expected publications), and must be sent to seleccio@cidob.org with the title “Junior Visiting Fellowship”.
Selection and notification process
The selection of candidates will be made through an open call, following the channels, procedures and criteria for the selection of CIDOB staff. Finalist candidates will be contacted for a personal interview during the first half of July 2024.
The decision will be announced during the second half of July 2024.
The research stay will last six months, from the beginning of September 2024 to the end of February 2025.
Content of the offer
The Fellowship will offer the awardee the chance to join CIDOB’s team of researchers for a period of six months (to be decided between the institution and the awardee) on a full-time in-person basis, for which remuneration will be offered of €13,000 gross plus compensation at the end of the contract according to applicable labour regulations.
The aim is for the candidate to develop their research with the support of a researcher from the CIDOB team. The successful candidate will participate in the institution's research activities and contribute to its editorial output and/or external publications. The awardee will also participate in the seminars and conferences organised by the institution.
