CIDOB takes part in the Advisory Council on Artificial Intelligence, Ethics and Digital Rights convened by Barcelona City Council

On March 17^th, Barcelona City Council hosted the inaugural session of the new Advisory Council on Artificial Intelligence, Ethics and Digital Rights, which is comprised of 15 independent experts. Among them is Marta Galceran, Research Fellow on CIDOB’s Global Cities Programme and expert in city diplomacy, urban alliances and global governance, with a focus on digital transitions and technological humanism.

The Advisory Council aims to ensure that citizens’ digital rights are protected when innovative public policies are launched, with particular reference to the ethics of artificial intelligence. At the request of Barcelona City Council, the Advisory Council will prepare studies on the possible implementation of certain algorithms in areas such as education, employment and essential public services, and will assess their impact on people's fundamental rights.

Chaired by the Laia Bonet, Deputy Mayor for the Digital Transition, the Advisory Council will meet at least twice a year. The members, who include experts from both the scientific–technological and social–humanist fields, will hold their posts for five years, extendable by at most one subsequent term.
