CIDOB statement

The violence Russian forces are perpetrating in Ukraine is not only a flagrant violation of human rights, international law and the country's sovereignty, it also poses an unprecedented threat to the contemporary European and international security order.

CIDOB condemns the Russian attack and calls for the cessation of hostilities throughout Ukrainian territory in order to guarantee the human security of the country’s citizens.

It reiterates its solidarity with the Ukrainian people, recognises the courage of the Russian citizens expressing their objections to the war and urges the international community to condemn the Kremlin's aggression and work towards restoring peace, territorial integrity, and sovereignty to Ukraine.

CIDOB also applauds the efforts of the European Union and international organisations to preserve security in Europe and calls on all other international actors to condemn the dictatorial and belligerent regime in the Kremlin.

It calls for the continuation of the efforts to impose sanctions on the Putin regime, to provide humanitarian, political, economic, security and defence support to Ukraine and to achieve a political and diplomatic solution to the conflict. The reception of refugees from Ukraine should also be facilitated.

Joint action by the European Union and the international community to establish peace in Ukraine is essential to the stability of the international order.
