The coronavirus pandemic has affected the geopolitical, economic, security and international cooperation dynamics. The rivalry between the United States and China has been strengthened and global value chains and commercial exchanges have suffered a systemic shock, while inequalities are reinforced and authoritarianism, social unrest and international conflicts persist as fundamental fractures of the international order.
At the same time, some dynamics such as the mobilization of resources for the vaccine, the coordination of transnational research groups, connections from the global periphery or the consolidation of the central role of Asia force us to rethink the global order from the perspective of new opportunities generated.
Which international order will consolidate in the post-Covid-19 world? Will it be more conflictual? Or will new opportunities for international cooperation arise? In which areas can win-win dynamics be created? Is Covid-19 a forerunner of future crisis resulting from climate change? And what effects will the pandemic have on polarization dynamics and populism on a global scale?
These and other related questions are addressed by several high-level experts in the documentary film ‘Bouncing back. World politics after the pandemic’, to be pre-released next January 23rd 2021, in the framework of the ‘War and Peace in the 21st Century’ initiative, led by CIDOB in collaboration with EsadeGeo and with the support of Fundació “la Caixa” and the institutional board members of CIDOB. The realization of this documentary is an example of CIDOB’s effort to innovate in the generation and dissemination of international knowledge in times of pandemic. Its pre-release and subsequent debate will allow an exchange of points of view among a selected audience.
