CIDOB International Yearbook reaches its 32nd edition amid one of the most disruptive and unstable contexts in recent decades. Several trends come together in the current debate on the transformation of the international order: the aftermath of the great recession of 2008 and its impact on the globalization process; the spread of populist movements in different parts of the world; the impact of the global pandemic of COVID-19 on inequality and  the return of the State as the ultimate guarantor of public security; the return of imperialist geopolitics –with Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine; the growing rivalry between the US and China and the creation of alliances and blocs; and, finally, the consequences of the loudly-heralded climate change on human life on Earth. 

In its 2022 edition, CIDOB Yearbook analyses these issues and presents a summary of 3 major themes: first, the emergence of spaces in geopolitical dispute; secondly, the possible end of the globalization process; and, finally, we analyse the impact of COVID-19 on the existing gaps between and within societies –income, education, technology, health or solidarity– that have been aggravated because of the pandemic crisis.
