CIDOB is pleased to invite you to a new European Breakfast-Jaime Arias on April 13 with the participation of Pat Cox, president of the European Parliament (2002-2004),as a special guest.
Pat Cox was elected member of the European Parliament representing the Progressive Democrats in 1989. Five years later, in 1994, he was re-elected as an independent member and appointed vice-president of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE), becoming its leader in 1998. In January 2002, he was elected president of the European Parliament, succeeding Nicole Fontaine (European People’s Party) and resigned in July 2004, being replaced by Josep Borrell (European Socialist Party). In 2004 he was awarded the Charlemagne International Prize for his work in favor of the enlargement of the European Union and democracy.
