Disinformation has become a significant challenge for European societies and for the future of European enlargement in the Western Balkans and the Eastern Neighbourhood. AI-generated fake content, information manipulation or suppression, conspiracy theories, and anti-European narratives are being produced and spread by both internal actors and foreign powers with geopolitical interests in the region. This disinformation thrives on regional shocks, such as the Russian invasion of Ukraine, as well as existing social, ethnic, and economic divisions within these countries.

This seminar is a mutual learning activity focused on identifying the factors driving disinformation in the Western Balkans and the Eastern Neighbourhood. It aims to explore more effective and democratic strategies to combat disinformation. The seminar seeks to connect researchers, journalists, civil society organizations and academia to share views and experiences.
