The deepening contradictions of “immigration policies” without social integration mechanism in Japan: Its background and its contrast with Catalan Immigration Policy

Japanese “immigration policies” have been deepening its contradiction. While it maintains the official rejection of opening the door for “immigrant” labor, it has been increasing actual incorporation of so called “foreign temporary workers” for more than 25 years.

Japanese “immigration policies” have been deepening its contradiction. While it maintains the official rejection of opening the door for “immigrant” labor, it has been increasing actual incorporation of so called “foreign temporary workers” for more than 25 years. This presentation analyzes the effects of this gap on immigrants’ life as well as local policies for integration. By making policies of Catalunya as a reference point, this study will elucidate peculiar structural logic and outcomes of Japanese de facto immigration policies. 

The Conference will be hosted by CIDOB on 9th of September and it will be giving by Prof. Akihiro Koido, Hitotsubashi University. A first reaction will be made by Dr. Blanca Garcés-Mascareñas, Pompeu Fabra University.
