The current geopolitical context in which the EU operates is marked by radical uncertainty. The raise in geostrategic rivalries, global fragmentation and contestation, and an overall deteriorating international security environment are some of the trends that have pushed the EU to strengthen its role in peace, security and defence. From Ukraine to the Caucasus, from the Middle East to the Horn of Africa, the Sahel and beyond, an arc of instability is settling in around Europe, which intertwine with other areas of tensions and conflicts around the world, most prominently the wider Indo-Pacific region. At the same time, all types of policies are being weaponised, from energy to migration and economic dependencies, where the line between economy and security is becoming increasingly thin. In the years to come, the EU will need to step up its preparedness and capacity to act, defend itself, and shape international security.
On 31 October, at 9:30a.m, CIDOB organises a new CIDOB Breakfast with the participation of Stefano Sannino, Secretary General of the European Union External Action Service, who will discuss about the international (dis)order and the new security approach of the EU. The conversation will be moderated by Pol Morillas, Director of CIDOB.
The event will be conducted in english.
