The violence is shaking the Middle East and North Africa. The attacks in Tunis March 18 is the last deed in a long list of dramatic situations: four years of civil war in Syria; Libya and Yemen turned into failed states; refugees, sectarian violence and continuous violations of fundamental rights everywhere. In contrast, the nuclear negotiations with Iran and the peace process between the Turkish government and the PKK offer some hope. How will these crises evolve? Have all these issues have implications for the future of the region? What is the nature of the terrorism phenomenon and how to deal with it? Will the borders in the region be redrawn? Where are the hopes of the Arab Spring? To discuss about this, CIDOB and the Friedrich Ebert Foundation have invited two researchers from the region, Sabiha Senyuncel Gundogar, director of the foreign policy program at the Turkish think-tank TESEV; and Djallil Lounnas Professor of International Relations at Al Akhawayn University in Morocco and an expert on terrorism in the Maghreb and the Sahel. The debate will be moderated by Eduard Soler i Lecha, Research Coordinator of CIDOB.
