The Sustainable Development Goals (ODS) approved by the General Assembly of the United Nations in September 2015 conform a universal agenda that aims to lay the groundwork for more inclusive and sustainable development models by 2030. It is an agenda built from a broad social participation process that calls for a joint effort to transform all countries based on the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities. To make it effective it will require an unprecedented mobilization of resources and support and changes in patterns of consumption and production and in the social organization forms. Therefore broad participation and social support through networks and alliances working together is necessary. The objective of this seminar is to discuss the commitments that this agenda represents for Europe, both for the European institutions and the Member States, and especially the role of civil society in achieving the expected goals.
