Uncertainties about world markets reliability and food production systems sustainability have renewed the interest on alternative cooperation arenas and agendas aiming to improve food security, in particular for developing countries. This paper explores food and agricultural issues in the Atlantic Basin from this perspective. It presents a synthesis of food security global
debates in relation to agriculture. It gives a strategic analysis of main Atlantic regions based on their current food security situation and their agricultural growth potential. It concludes by recognizing possible contributions of Atlantic Basin to global food security. It identifies public goods investments in the Atlantic Basin for which feasibility studies are fully justified (reserves, logistics, health and environment). It may the case for value adding South-South transatlantic cooperation and vertical African integration initiatives that should be expanded.
